Conquering the great divide

Santa Ana freeway

Pedestrian overpass with runnerOne of Downey's selling points is "we're freeway close!" Downey is bounded (and slightly intersected by) the 605 to the east, the 105 to the south, the 710 to the west, and the 5 to the north. (You'll notice I don't refer to the "I5" — we don't call it that in southern California.) In Downey, I don't think I've ever been more than 5 minutes from a freeway on-ramp.

But the 5 freeway cuts off a small section of Downey. This pedestrian overpass was a fun place to check out the Sunday afternoon traffic. It also provides access to runners and bicyclists between the big side and the little orphan side of Downey.

  1. Every city has its special secret places, known only by locals. Now I know the one from Downey.

  2. Ok, so this is probably a dumb question, but where exactly is Downey? I was picturing something smaller, but I'm thinking I may be wrong!

  3. lol! I guess you could get the impression of a small town from some of our pictures. Downey itself isn't big, but we're part of those endless miles of concrete that make up metropolitan Los Angeles.

Click on the "location" link under most posts, then zoom out on the map to see how close we are to downtown LA.
