Christmas at Knott's

DSC_0105

The Knott family moved to Buena Park in 1920. Walter Knott developed the boysenberry shortly after. Knott's Berry Farm has been a standard for Downey residents to have an amusing day of going back in time. Back to the old West.

The above steam engine was used in the California desert in the 1800s and was brought to Knott's Ghost Town in 1941.

This is what it looked like before it came to Knott's.

Knott's has always celebrated the handcrafted arts. During Christmas they set up the Craft Fair with many handicrafts on display for sale. We visited Cris at this Christmas ornament shop where she will hand print any name and sentiment onto your ornament.

We then topped the evening off by splitting a chicken dinner at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner restaurant, which has been serving those chicken dinners since 1934.

Cranberries for Thanksgiving

IMG_1035_1

I'm making homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. Along with everything else, it takes a fair amount of preparation, but it's worth it.

IMG_1031We have a lot of extended "family," so our dinner is potluck. I love all the homemade dishes that arrive for the feast.

What will you be cooking for Thanksgiving?

Farmers market morning

IMG_3538

It was a beautiful summer morning, a perfect day to hit the farmers market for some fresh fruit and the veggies.

IMG_3540I guess everyone had the same thought because it seemed more crowded than usual.

One of the things I enjoy about the market is that you just can't rush it. I like to take my time and walk around, try the samples, find the best tasting items. And, I usually go through the entire market before I buy anything so I know I'm finding the best items at the best price.

The tomatoes looked amazing, as did the berries. My backpack was full by the time we left.
