Hints of fall - part 2

Second Tyme Around Thrift Shop

When it comes to signs of fall, something even more reliable than falling leaves is the beginning of football season. Even the Second Tyme Around Thrift Shop, who always decorates the store windows for the season, recognizes this fact.

Let's party

Spring flowers

The weather has been a frequent source of inspiration for us the last few months. First, fall seemed to last forever, or at least way past Christmas. And now, spring seems to have arrived early. It seems like winter this year is just getting squeezed out.

But the nice thing about the early spring is the appearance of spring flowers. Everywhere I look on my morning walks, I see flowers bursting into bloom, providing a cheerful array of colors.

Signs of the time

P1040721

In some places you can tell it's fall by the changing of the leaves. Here in Downey we know it's fall by the articles for sale. These dolls, along with pumpkins and other fall decorations, are on display outside of Michael's at the Downey Landing.

Leaves

IMG_2802 as Smart Object-1

I love Downey in the winter! I guess it's because we don't really have true seasons, but it is really nice this time of year. The sky is generally clearer, the mountains seem so close and the trees are full of color. Of course, it hasn't felt like winter with 80 degree days....

The leaves are falling!

IMG_0697

Most days I cut down different side streets in our neighborhood as I'm on my way home from work. Lately I have chosen this street almost every evening because I noticed a few weeks ago that the leaves on the trees had started turning. With the time change, it seems I'm always approaching home as the sun is low in the sky. I love how the sun seems to make the leaves glow.

It is proof that we do have seasons in California.

Pumpkin season

IMG_8483

I love this time of year. Somehow it always seems to take a long time to get here. Summer is finally over, but there is still this big in-between time until it actually feels like autumn. The air is finally consistently cooler and we can start wearing sweaters and layers again. The pumpkin patches have started popping up all around town, full of all sizes and a variety of colors of pumpkins. I have so much fun filling the house with them.
