Rainfall

IMG_2761 as Smart Object-1

I was just wishing for summer to come and then we had a rainy Saturday. It was kind of nice to have a reason to stay inside and just hang out. I spent some time watching the drops fall on the ground just outside my window. It didn't take long for bigger puddles to form. And the shapes the falling rain made in the puddle were almost hypnotic to watch.

Time to reflect

IMG_1445 as Smart Object-1

IMG_1469 as Smart Object-1It rained all last night. It was a soothing sound outside my window, but I was happy when it stopped because it always makes for such a nice walk the morning after it has rained.

IMG_1452 as Smart Object-1The streets were wet and  the remaining puddles reflected the trees and houses nearby.

I find myself looking for the raindrops left on the flowers. I am always hoping to find the ones that show miniature reflections in them as well. I don't think I caught any in today's photos, I will just have to keep trying.

Still raining

rain drops
Okay apparently, it isn't raining anymore, but when I was allowed outside on my break, it was hailing, so I thought this was a good shot of what Downey looks like now. No wonder people get depressed during the rainy seasons in other places. Six days of rain is enough for me.

We brake for rain

we break for rain

With all the off and on weather we've been having these last few weeks, drivers are extra careful on the roads. Brake lights were everywhere as the rain was pouring down on us.

Through the pane

rain in window

The rain on my dining room window had such a glow that I had to take a picture.

What the rain brought

raindrops

The night took the last big chunk of rain and this morning, big fluffy clouds were the only proof there had been any precipitation. Until I saw my peanut-butter plant. It had caught some rain drops and were still feverishly hanging on to them.

We'll take what we can get

drain

They say whatever you want to do, it's less than an hour away from Downey. Beach? Sure. Mountains? Of course. Lake? There too. Even Disneyland is 20 minutes away. But the thing that is most prevalent to me is the desert. We live in Southern California. In a giant desert that we've turned into strip malls and playgrounds and homes, we get less than 13 inches of rain each year. So when we get it, we love it. We beg for more. We start the gas fireplace and jump into our Uggs and stir the hot cocoa. We cling to it.

Raindrops keep falling . . .

"No individual rain drop ever considers itself responsible for the flood!"

The weather has been so crazy today, I felt obligated to take a picture of the rain. It was magical to notice the effects of each rain drop on the pooled water on the back patio.
