Shades of Greece in Downey?

PIH medical office building

The bright white walls and contrasting blue windows of the PIH medical office building remind me (OK, I know it's a stretch) of the pictures I've seen of the Greek islands. (See this example.)

I notice this every time I drive by, so I finally decided to stop for some pictures.

In with the blue

DSC_0021

It's a blue moon tonight! (Technically at 9:58 tomorrow morning, but it counts.) If you're like me a few years ago, you'd be looking for the moon to have a blue color to it.

"In fact, 'blue moon' refers not to color, but to rarity. Blue moons are defined as either the fourth full moon in a season, or, more recently, as the second full moon in a month. It's the second definition that covers August's blue moon; the month's first full moon was on Aug. 1.

"Blue moons happen because our calendar months don't precisely sync with the moon's orbit. It takes the moon 29.5 days to wax and wane from full to new to full again. With the exception of February, months are longer than that, meaning that once in a while the timing works out so there are two full moons in one month." msnbc.msn.com

If you miss this one, the next chance you get will be in 2015

Baby blue Chevy

IMG_2303

I like finding old cars to photograph. They seem so much more solid than the cars of today and they have more character. Although, I imagine, driving this big guy would take a lot more effort than my current car with its power steering and electric everything.

"The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers. ~Dave Barry, "Things That It Took Me 50 Years to Learn"

Blue glass spheres

IMG_1285

I saw this tree as I was driving the other day and fell in love with the colorful blue glass spheres hanging from these amazing, outstretched limbs.

The entire front yard was charming and eclectic and appealed to me in many ways. You may see one or two more posts in coming days!

Blue Chevy

Somehow, the vintage Chevys have so much more character than the new ones.

It would probably take a lot of upkeep to maintain this car in it's condition, but it would sure be fun to drive!

A view of the Mediterranean

Opa Cafe

The Greek festival last month introduced my daughter to lamb, so tonight we went to the Opa Cafe for another taste of that Greek specialty. (Click here for more about the Greek festival.)

The Opa Cafe has great food, reasonable prices, friendly service, and no crowds (it was a week night). But what I really liked was the view out the many "windows" that surround the dining area. Oh, and the poster personally autographed by Nia Vardalos.

Car show

IMG_3738

Another shot from the car show. I liked how the reflection of the bumper caught a panoramic view of the show.
