Water for sale

This is a store that sells, among other things, reverse osmosis filtered water. Customers bring in bottles of all sizes to get filled at $0.25/gallon. While I was there, a lady came with seven 1-gallon plastic bottles and one 5-gallon bottle. There are multiple stores like this in Downey.



There's even a neon sign to advertise how pure the water is.

Neon in winter

There's something appealing about neon signs on a winter night. Neon seems to have a cool crisp color that matches the air.

This sign is at Granata’s Restaurant & Tapas, in downtown Downey.

Late night lights

I know Joan has shown this scene before. But there's something appealing about the neon, the low overhead lights, the rows of tables.

Oh, and I used to work in this building when it was a Sears catalog store. My very first real job, just 40 years ago.

Neon nights

Another look at Downey's nightlife... shooting almost directly up was necessary if I didn't want any heads in the picture. It was so crowded. It always seems to me that Downey doubles its population at night.

Something's missing

Ever since I can remember, the lights have been out in these two letters. It's more like this is more familiar than if they actually fixed them.

Night lights

Believe it or not, this is the LA skyline as seen from the 8th floor of the Embassy Suites in Downey. The rain stopped just long enough for me to take a photo.

Neon lights

Night time in Downey. As soon as the sun is down, the neon lights come on. It gives the city a whole different feel. It's a fun look. Even the standard all-night restaurants take on a magical appearance.

The Krikorian has always been THE neon sign in Downey. Nothing else stands out like it at night. You can see it reflected in building windows blocks away. It's an architectural beauty.
