Chairs in a row

Chairs can be grouped together to encourage conversation, or they can be placed in a row so that everyone can view the show. These chairs are all set up for the next show—whether it's a local game of touch football, or just the constant stream of passers-by on this street.

Some things don't change

Among the many manly accessories in the barber shop was this line of hair products I couldn't get enough of. The retro feel of the shop took me back to another decade where men draped in tattoos talked about everything from women to beer to the football game last Friday night... Oh wait, that's what they talk about now...

Shave and a hair cut...

I went into a barbershop to do a miniature photo shoot today and there was this little tough guy doing his own shave. I guess I literally did a "miniature" shoot.

Sidewalk cafe envy

If I haven't said it enough already, I really wish we had more nightlife in Downey. I was in Santa Monica yesterday and ate at this sidewalk cafe. Santa Monica is a beach town about 30 miles away, on the west side of Los Angeles. Of course, with traffic, that means at least an hour drive.

I wish we had more of this more in Downey. Of course, I'd definitely need some standing heaters.

Chair swing

I am someone who is always looking for new ways to use old items and I love to see how other people find ways to do the same. I have to admit, I laughed when I first saw this, but I was also impressed. Someone at this house wanted a chair swing, so they made one quick and easy!

Rocking in black and white

Some new rockers have popped up in my neighborhood recently. Part of this house's recent facelift included a new black door and these matching black rockers. They give this house a rather stately old-fashioned look, especially in the late afternoon sunlight.

Front porch rockers

This front porch belongs to one of those early 1900's houses that I love. The porch is appealing, especially with the three matching rockers, sitting in a row. It looks so comfortable.

I remember sitting on the front porch in the evenings on my grandparents' farm in Missouri.  We'd enjoy the cooler evening temperatures. We'd wave to the occasional passers-by—every one of them!

But now it seems like neighborhoods are directed inward. People sit in the back yard. Even people that have front porches rarely use them. I've never seen anyone actually sitting in these three rockers, enjoying their front porch.

Accents in red (Theme week: Red)

This cute little cottage, built in 1926, caught my eye because of the abundance of red accents on the porch and in the yard.
