Today in the US we celebrate Veteran's Day. Businesses all around Downey offered special deals to veterans, as a way of saying "thank you" for their service. Friends posted "thank you" messages on Facebook. (All in all, a very welcome change from the pre- and post-election noise.)
My dad, above, served in Germany and France during WWII, before eventually returning and raising a family "way way out" in Downey.
